Participating in the C3 program:

Participation in C3 is open to any company that reduces Portland cement by mixing supplementary cementitious materials with Portland cement, including cement companies, concrete companies and concrete product companies. Suppliers of pozzolans can also become participants by aggregating concrete companies or other blenders. Participants can earn $0.50 per metric ton for verified credits.

There are two methods for participation: the project method and the company method. In the project method, the baseline is determined on a project level with regionally specific data. Offsets are determined by the amount of Portland cement not used below the baseline. Examples of projects include road projects, building projects and large infrastructure projects. In the company method, a baseline amount of Portland cement used per total concrete poured over a previous three year period is established. The offsets are determined by the amount that the ratio of cement to concrete decreases.
